As told by M.J. Nottoli “Over 35 years ago, I found myself in another state with two small children in a grocery store not able to pay for all the groceries. The check-out person and the people behind me sighed heavily as I handed back items trying to get down to what I had to cover the bill and still feed the kids. Some years later, back in my home state, children nearly grown, I happened to be the person behind a women experiencing the same thing. Recalling how devestating and embarrasing the situation was as more and more people became aware of my predicament those years ago, I was moved to whisper to the clerk to simply charge the additional items to me as quietly as possible please. As I paid the bill for both our groceries and helped the woman put the bagged items in her cart, she wept tears of gratitude but also embarrasement! I reassured her I had been in the exact same situation some years back and that things would improve for her just as they had for me, then she could help someone else. I’m sure she has!” credit: randomkindacts.com
